Stoddard Valley January 29 - 30, 2005
Kevin and his son Keith towing his new 38 foor 5th wheel, Les Overall with camper, and myself in my motor home arrived at our campsite off Hodge Road Friday afternoon. It was raining pretty hard on the way, but by the time we set up camp it had tappered off to a light drizzle. That evening we around the camp fire we enjoyed a wonderful Bar-B-Que pork chop dinner with all the fix'ns complements of Les- He volunteered to cook all the dinners and breakfasts for us in exchange for his costs-A real deal! The drizzle had stopped by early evening, just about the time Eric arrived with his two sons and a friend. The kids were riding either quads or dirt bikes.

Saturay morning the sun was shinning, and after a great breakfast of pancakes, fresh cut bacon, sausage, eggs and fruit complements of Les, we headed off to the Mine Trail on the north side of Stoddard Mountain. Lots of rocks (Remember Ron??) and great fun.

After a brief lunch stop, we decided to explore the Stoddard Ridge mountain range just East of Stoddard Mountain-My old map shows a Most Difficult trail somewhere on the North side, so we started looking. After traveling up a few dead end canyons, we discovered a narrow bike trail leading up one canyon that looked promising. The trail would alternately narrow to bike tracks and further on widen to a 4x4 road. We climbed a number of interesting rock ledges that were not to difficult but required some lifting and pushing to get the kids over in their quads and bikes.

The trail slowly climbed up the narrow canyon, and much to our joy eventually led us all to the top on the montain range. We paused on the ridge for awhile to enjoy the panaramic views and take a few pictures of the surounding desert-Barstow, Victorville, the snow capped mountains-Great scenery!
The trail followed the ridge line West for a few miles then dropped down a switchback trail to end on the West side of the mountain range.
A great trail-not on any maps-that we need to visit again!

Saturday night we were treated to a fresh home made Chile dinner complements of Les.

Sunday after another great breakfast, we ran the Achey-Breaky Trail, and then poked around the hills and found a couple of new rocky washs to run.
The weather was wonderful- The food was outstanding!- And the runs were exciting- A great Spinnin Fours weekend.
