Steve's 40th Birthday Bash, Azusa Canyon, July 11, 2004

It was a great time for all...  Steve Miller's 10th anniversary of his 30th birthday!

The weather was HOT as we checked in at the San Gabriel Canyon OHV Area (Azusa Canyon).  As we moved down the canyon it didn't look promising for relief from the heat as we traversed a dusty, dry construction zone where they are dredging the reservoir.  Luckily, our destination, the end of the "Legal" OHV area, consisted of  mud flats (not much mud) and river bank ledges, and NO DUST!  There was also one last, small, MUD HOLE!

Perhaps most important was the REFRESHING BREEZE that made the afternoon very comfortable.  Thanks also to those who brought a sun shelter and umbrella's!

There was a good turn out from the Club and Steve's friends.  Ice cold drinks and Chicken and Sides from El Pollo Loco made for a great picnic beside the Mud Flats.

Steve brought his Bronco and treated us to rooster tails of water and sand, but he stayed out of the Mud Pit!  As usual, when Steve was playing with his Bronco it sounded like we were at a drag race as he let the ponies lose!  Steve also showed the crowd that our club has no trouble climbing nasty river bank ledges...

Vince brought his 4Runner and had fun on the riverbank ledges and rocks in a side canyon.

Ron brought 2 rigs!  He towed the Flat Fender with his new rig, an 80 Toyota Longed Pickup he just bought from Rick!  The Toyota did great, and went everywhere Ron pointed it.  Unfortunately, the Flat Fender still has not made it through a club event without breaking... this time the front drive shaft had a weld in the slip joint break and it had no front wheel drive.

Mark brought the "Hot Rod", 86 Toyota Pickup, Solid Axle Swap, with 4.3 L Vortec motor.  It was the first time Off Road for this rig and it stayed together despite Mark hammering it up and down river banks, a rock wall in a side canyon, and 3 trips through the Mud Pit!

Also present from the club, but not really wheeling were Steve and Stephanie Bennett, Rick and Carolyn, Fred and Venetta, Brian, Rafi and Nir, Scott, and Bob.  (Please let me know if I forgot anyone)

Thanks to Steve and Christine for hosting a great party!
